Dram of the day; Glendronach Scotch Whisky 21 year old Parliament 48%

Whisky by taste: Rich Fruity Whisky

This whisky is matured in a combination of the finest  Pedro Ximenez  and Oloroso sherry casks for a minimum of 21 years, the 'Parliament' continues the Glendronach tradition of offering fruit-laden intensity in its single malts. Bottled at 48%, the 'Parliament' is non chill filtered and of natural colour.

Colour A Deep amber with a rich cherry wood sheen.

On the nose there is a delicate mix of ripe autumnal fruits - blackberries and red plums. the rich Oloroso sherry and candied orange segments. Spiced oatmeal biscuits and toasted oak fragrances bring excellent weight and balance to this fine dram.

The palate has resolute flavours of fine Oloroso sherry and bitter chocolate sauce, which has been spread liberally over plum pudding. This is all infused with fabulous spicy notes - cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. Full bodied with smooth tannins.

The finish is long and lingering.

Dram Of The Day: Strathisla 1960 Single Malt Scotch Whisky 43%

A rich fruity whisky

This 50 year old Strathisla Single Malt Whisky distilled in 1960 and bottled in 2010 was matured and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, Elgin.

The bottle is presented in a hardwood box with a perspex sliding front and a certificate signed by David Urqhart the Director of Gordon & MacPhail.

Tasting notes by Gordon & MacPhail :-

Colour  : Dark Amber
Nose    : Sweet with a sherried edge. Delicate fruity aromas linger.
body     : Rich.
Palate  : Rich fruitcake influences with a subtle smoky edge.
Finish  : Smooth and fruity.

Dram of the Day; The Singleton of Dufftown 12 year old 40%Single Malt Whisky

The Singleton of Dufftown is Diadgeo's current marketing for this distillery. Previously bottled under the now defunct Flora & Fauna as 15 year old. They now offer this 12 year old

Located on the south side of Dufftown it draws its waters from Jock’s Well in the Conval Hills.

Being named after the town itself it could be assumed that it was also the first distillery to be set up in Dufftown. However Mortlach (1824), Glenfiddich (1887), Balvenie (1892) and Convalmore (1894) were all established earlier with Glendullan following in 1898.The last distillery to be built was Pittyvaich in 1975

The sweet and fruity notes in this fine malt from Dufftown are the product of traditional slow distilling, using pure water from Highlandman John's well, long maturation in a unique balance of European and American oak gives

The colour is a deep gold with polished mahogany highlights. with a light medium body,

On the nose there is rich fruit aromas with toasted nut in the background, by adding a touch of water releases  the classic distilleries Speyside style fruit-sweet aromas.

The palate has a distinct sweetness with nuts, then smooth fruity richness. hints of blackcurrant, brown sugar and espresso coffee. Warming and pleasant.

The whisky has a medium to long, elegantly drying and crisp with a delayed, lingering warmth.
