Nikka All Malt Japanese Whisky

This version is the result of a vatting of Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts with a whisky made with 100% malted barley, and distilled in coffey stills.

Color; old gold with golden highlights.

Nose : lively and mineral. Animal (leather and smoked meat) and lightly smoky (tobacco and ashy). Develops along a theme of fresh grass and ripe fruit (apple).

Palate; rich and delicious. After a burst of rich, liqueur-like softness which is at odds with the liveliness of the nose, ripe fruit (sultanas) notes develop alongside an increasing oiliness (sunflower oil).

Finish; soft and licquoricey, with distinct notes of precious wood and spices (clove). Concentrated.

Suntory "Yamazaki", 12 year old 43% Single Malt Whisky

The vale of Yamazaki at Tennozan Mountain on the outskirts of Kyoto was the birthplace of Japanese whisky. The malt whisky produced at this Yamazaki Distillery, with a tradition dating back to 1923, has slept through a long cycle of Japan's colourful seasons, the brighness of Spring, the luxuriant green of Summer, the vermilion foliage of Autumn and the white blanket of Winter.
Pure Malt Whisky "Yamazaki" uses only 100% malt Whiskies at least 12 years old,
Radiant and noble, its flavor is full-bodied and mellow, and the distinctive woody taste of mature malt induces a pleasant, lingering aftertaste.
We suggest that you first try it straight.

Colour; Gold

Body: Medium

Nose: Fragrant Cedar wood, golden honey, spiced cloves and candied orange peel

Palate: The spiced wood arrives first then dried cranberries with a lasting muddle of orange marmalade and honey sweetness.

Finish; Long lasting with woody overtones.

Nikka's Yoichi Distillery Japanese Single Malt Whisky.

Nikka's Yoichi distillery on Hokkaido was founded by Masataka Takesuru in 1934, born into a Sake-brewing family he left Japan for Scotland in 1918 to study chemistry and whisky making at Glasgow university.
He returned in 1923 with a Scotish wife and a deep desire to create Japanese whisky on the island of Hokkaido. His employer Kotobukiya, his employer insisted that the best location for the distillery would be close to the major urban areas on Honshu so Yamazaki (Suntory) was established with Takesure in charge.

His Vision of a northern distillery on Hokkaido never left him. There was peat, oak and the island climate was similar to Scotland. In 1934 he left Yamazaki to set up his own distillery six years later the first whiskies arrived from the Yoichi distillery
