Poit Dhubh 8 year old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

PrĂ ban na Linne Limited is the only whisky company with its headquarters on the Isle of Skye, where Gaelic is still widely spoken. As the Gaels originally invented whisky, the company feels their whiskies are genuinely authentic.

From the beginning the whiskies they produce have been labeled in Gaelic and so they soon became known as  "The Gaelic Whiskies". In Skye they say "having Gaelic on the label greatly improves the flavour"!

Poit Dhubh 8 year old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes:

Originally referred to as a Vatted Malt or Pure Malt now classed as a Blended Malt
(a blend of single malts from different distilleries)

Nose: Medium-sweet, slightly fresh and quite rich.

Palate: Smooth with a touch of dryness, lightly peated and quite elegant, although light.

Finish: Long, smoky and slightly perfumed.

www.whiskys.co.uk new website

The new website for whiskys.co.uk went live at noon today.

We feel that we have brought our web presence upto date with the improvements we have made with the invaluable assistance of our web designers infotech247.com. (thank you)

The new site has better images, full descriptions for all the whiskies and what we feel is a lot more visitor friendly arrangement.

In the past we had to guess - where a particular whisky was best suited and put it in the one category only.  now we can multi-define a whisky - by Type, region, taste style, vintage, closed distillery, cask strength, rare, collector.

The Menu for the website is expansive and we have added our range of Scottish beers and you can see the other fine spirit drinks that we keep

For us the website is a lot easier to edit and control and stock is automatically monitored and now tells you how many bottles we have.

We also now have facilities to be more socially active so you can blog, facebook or tweet or any other social network our website to anyone you like, if you have a problem please let me know first.

We also have a twitter account - I promise not to tell you that I have just had a piece of toast- however we will use it to tell you about our latest editions or any whisky news that I think you may be interested in.

So please have a couple of minutes to have a look at our newsite www.whiskys.co.uk and if you have time let us know what you think all feedback is welcome

Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey 47% 75cl Batch# 35

Straight Rocky Mountain Whisky.
100% Malted Barley.
A unique small batch whiskey cultivated in Colorado’s only micro-distillery is a whiskey unlike any other – a straight Rocky Mountain whiskey that embraces the true pioneering spirit of the West.

Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey™ is expected to set a new classification for the liquor, as its unique distilling techniques blend the processes used to make both Scotch and Bourbon whiskeys. What results is a spirit with a traditionally Bourbon amber-red colour, but a lighter, smoother taste than any other whiskey on the market.
The whiskey mash includes four different barleys grown in the Northern Rockies and water from crystal clear Rocky Mountain streams.

“This cleaner, purer mash is double filtered and double distilled, giving the distillery a superior product starting off.  Our still is a pot/column combination — pot is generally a Scotch-style still, and column is a Bourbon-style still. We thought it would be an efficient way to achieve the purity we expected”, Graber says. “Being hand-crafted allows us to control the process and the quality a lot better.”

Glengoyne Single Malt Whisky 12 year old 57.2% 70cl

Highland region.  Southwest district.

Unlike most other single malts Glengoyne has been preserving the essence of its flavour for decades by using air-dried barley rather than barley dried using harsh peat smoke. The result is a subtler, complex whisky in which all of the delicate flavours are freely allowed to express themselves.

Glengoyne Single Malt Whisky 12 year old 57.2% 70cl Tasting Notes

Distillery bottling at Cask Strength.

Appearance: Amber, syrupy. Sauternes.

Nose: Oak, sherry, digestive biscuits, sweet oatcakes, banana, apricot, peaches, marzipan and peardrops. Does not prick the nose, despite high strength.

Mouthfeel: Viscous, rich and filling

Initial Taste: Smooth, sweet start, with some sherry and chocolate.

After Water: Becomes slightly waxy, with pepper at the tail.

Finish: Very long, stays with you until morning!

Arran Single Malt Whisky 10 year old 46% Non Chill Filtered 70cl

Island of Arran Scotch Whisky.

Early in the 19th century there were more than 50 whisky distilleries on Arran, most of them illegal and carefully hidden from the eyes of the taxmen. The malt was acclaimed at the time as the best in Scotland, only rivaled by those from the 'Glen of Livet'.

Based at Lochranza the new distillery was founded in 1995 by Harold Currie, who was previously Managing Director of Chivas (Seagrams) and House of Campbell (Pernod Ricard).

Arran Single Malt Whisky 10 year old 46% Non Chill Filtered 70cl Tasting notes...

Distillery Edition

Colour Ripe Golden Barley.

Nose The initial rush of vanilla sweetness gives way to the fruits of slow distillation - kiwi, banana, cantaloupe melon - with just a dusting of cocoa powder. It is undoubtedly complex and yet the aromas are in complete harmony with the malt.

Taste A touch of cinnamon adds a spicy edge to the soft and sweet texture which captivates the palate. The classic Arran citrus notes have rounded with age and reveal new depths of character against a background of sweet oak.

Finish It drifts over the tongue like golden syrup and fades ever so slowly to tempt another sip. This is a beautifully made whisky. Arran has come a long way in 10 years. Truly the best things in life are always worth waiting for!
