England to get its third whisky distillery: New Lakes Distillery

First there was the St Austell Brewery (Produced the Wash) and Healey’s Cyder Farm that used their still to produce the whisky and matured it.

Then shortly after came England's 1st dedicated whisky distillery, The English Whisky Co Ltd and the St Georges distillery in Thetford Norfolk.

Next the Adnams brewery in Southwold in Suffolk commissioned a spirit still for the production of Gin Vodka and whisky  which I do believe batches have been produced.

The third distillery, forth producer,  is The Lakes Distillery in Cumbria going into production this year.

The team behind the new Lakes Malt is steeped in experience. Founder, Paul Currie, set up with his family the widely acclaimed Arran distillery, and he plans to produce a malt of similarly outstanding quality.

Construction of the distillery is due to begin at the end of February / beginning of March 2012 and the first phase (the distillery) should be completed around 8 weeks later.

The company plans to launch a premium Cumbrian Gin “Jenupus”, towards the end of May with the first Lakes Malt Whisky being distilled around mid June.
