Big Peat Islay Blended Malt Scotch whisky 46% Small Batch 70cl

A shovelful of Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskies including malts distilled at
ARDBEG - CAOL ILA - BOWMORE - PORT ELLEN - Distilleries
Bottle Notes..

Historically we would call this - whisper it - “A Vatted Malt” But with a Big Peat Kick

But what exactly, you may ask, is a Vatted Malt? It is what the Scotch Whisky industry has traditionally called “a marriage of Malts”. Such vattings often form the heart and soul of a blended scotch whisky (which carries the lighter tasting grain whisky , to soften matters).

This vatting carries a big peaty (often called “phenolic”), beachy oceanic slightly ashy selection of Malts from the island of Islay, from where the Laing family hail - and no wonder! - as we have included Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen in the "recipe".

Ally these lusty and robust Malts selected for BIG PEAT with the fact that no chill filtration takes place – a more old fashioned traditional approach – and you will detect a massive amplification of the anticipated sea-faring qualities on the nose, palate, and finish. These are particularly appreciated when consumed leisurely in the same style these Malts have waited for you in the cold, dark and windswept warehouses of Islay.

Glenfarclas Single Malt Whisky 105 Cask Strength 60%

Speyside region. Distillery edition at 60% Presentation tube.
Glenfarclas Scotch Whisky tasting note..

Colour: Deep peaty-gold.

Nose: Complex, oaky, apples and pears, and a tempting dark toffee sweetness.

Flavour: Dry and assertive, develops quickly to reveal a rich spiciness, combined with a hint of oak and sherried fruit.

Finish: Amazingly smooth for the strength; wonderfully warming and with a lingering smokiness, yet very rounded.

Comment: A great whisky holding all the flavours of all the Glenfarclas in one glass. Being so warming, this is the perfect Hogmanay dram. Don’t be afraid of the strength and order a 210, if you dare!

The smoothness makes the 105 drinkable at cask strength, but I suggest adding a little water to fully explore its great depth.

For its price to performance ratio, the Malt Maniacs named Glenfarclas 105 their ‘Bang for your Buck’ in 2004.

Isle of Jura "Prophecy" Scotch Whisky

Prophecies abound on Jura. Perhaps the most celebrated one was told in the early 1700’s when the Campbell Clan, who dominated the island, evicted a wise old seer blessed with the gift of the third eye: an ability to foretell the future. Bristling with resentment, she prophesised that when the last Campbell left the island he would be one-eyed and his belongings would be carried in a cart drawn by a white horse. Few believed such talk…

Until 1938, when Charles Campbell, a veteran of the Great War and blind in one eye, fell on hard times. When he made his way to the old pier for the last time the cart on which he traveled was drawn by a single white horse.
Improbable as it may seem the seer’s prophecy had come to pass.

“ That day, the sound of the cart on the track could be heard for miles.”
Allan MacDonald, witness to a legend.

Prophecy is a single malt whisky that has been created to honour this tale of the third eye.

Meticulously crafted from a selection of the finest and rarest aged Jura single malt whiskies, Prophecy is a profoundly peated spirit.

Colour: Rich, amber gold with shimmering highlights.

Nose: The tarry bonfire notes slowly give way to hints of soft liquorice and nutmeg.

Taste: Powerful flavours of peat smoke, fresh cinnamon and spicy sea spray lead the first assault. Finally the tarry bonfire notes slowly give way to hints of soft liquorice and nutmeg.

The whisky has been bottled in a traditional style without chill filtration to preserve the true character and deliver an authentic taste of 1938.
