Founded in 1815 by Alex & Donald Johnston
Location Islay region south shore district
Water source Kilbride Loch.
 
Distilling Equipment

Original floor maltings and peat kiln
Stainless steel lauter mash tun 
6 Stainless steel washbacks
3 wash stills and 3 spirit stills 
Matured in first fill American oak bourbon casks in dunnage warehouses on the seashore.



Laphroaig 10 year old Scotch Whisky Cask Strength Tasting notes
Colour: Rich deep gold.

Nose; Very powerful, "medicine", smoke, seaweed and ozone characters overlaying a sweetness.

Body: Full and strong.

Palate: A massive peated burst of flavour with hints of sweetness at the end.

Finish: Long and savoury

Laphroaig Single Malt Whisky 10 year old 40%

Laphroaig Scotch Whisky.

Islay region. South shore district.

Lying just west of Lagavulin on the south shore. Alex & Donald Johnston started the Laphroaig distillery in 1815.

During 1836 the distillery became under the sole ownership of Donald Johnston. Unfortunately Donald  died after tumbling into a vat of part-processed whisky in 1847  (what a way to go)
His son Dugald was too young to take over so the distillery was temporarily leased to Walter Graham

Distillery bottling in a presentation tube.

Colour. Full – refractive – gold.

Nose. Huge smoke Phenolic- seaweedy-very peaty with a hint of sweetness.

Taste: Islay peat smoke, Full and earthy, tangy salt laden air, an echo of sweetness at the end

Body. Medium and oily.

Murray McDavid bottling one of 3100 Bottles
Distilled 1998 bottled in 2009 at the Bruichladdich distillery Islay.
Non chill filtered Colouring free

Cask type: Bourbon / Margaux


Finished in: Chateau Margaux casks
 
Tasting Note: peat smoke, seaweed, soft spices, golden toffee, grapefruit, stewed plum, raisin.

Macallan & Laphroaig Double Barrel 46% 70cl


A bottling of two Single Malt Scotch Whiskies distilled at Macallan & Laphroaig Distilleries. Each married together from just One Single Selected Cask.
Selected, vatted, matured and bottled by Douglas Laing & Co. Ltd.
Tasting notes :-

Nose :- Opens lightly tarred yet fresh/floral with caramelised fruit (apricots) + spices (thyme and vanilla) beyond the saltiness.

Palate :- An initial sweetness + peat and tar alongside baked quality that runs to burnt shortbread and salty seaweed.

Finish :- Combines the Macallan honey with the Laphroaig tarry character. (F)

This expression of Laphroaig has enjoyed a second maturation in small Quarter casks. These most traditional barrels recreate a practice of a bygone era, to create the perfect marriage of peat and oak. The quarter cask is barrier filtered only and bottled at the higher 48% strength.
